Vacation Miscommunications 3

Day Two
Shizuo’s POV
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. I snapped up. Ah, it was just the alarm. Time to wake up, I guess. I was just getting to the part where I finally killed that annoying flea. Such a nice dream…I was about to get up, but there was something weighing me down. Wait, wasn’t I sleeping on the couch last night, how the hell did I end up on the floor?

“Nngh..” I stiffened. This voice…Slowly, I turned my head to the right. Seriously, this girl…
“Oi, (l/n), wake up.”
“Mmm, five more minutes…” She mumbled, clutching the front of my t-shirt and nuzzling my neck. My face felt unbearably hot. Not that I was blushing or anything, this room sure is hot.
“Hey, wake up! It’s morning already.” She groaned and sat up, rubbing her eyes.
“Eh…what?...SHIZUO!” She caught sight of me and screamed.
“What…you….I…we…” She paused and blinked. “Oh, I still have my clothes on. Guess we’re fine then.” I flicked her forehead.
“The hell were you thinking!?”
“Uhh….” She let out a nervous chuckle.
“So how did you and I end up on the floor? I swear I fell asleep on the couch yesterday.”
“Well would you look at the time! I think I should start getting ready now! Wouldn’t want to waste precious vacation time, right?” She got up and ready to leave, before I stood up, towering at least a good 6 inches over her. She let out a squeak of surprise as I caught her wrist.
“Shi.Zu.O. Let. Gooooo.” She tried tugging away to no avail.
“Not until you tell me what happened.” She’s a stubborn one, this girl. Not once did she stop trying to escape, that is until…
“Ow!” She had accidently kicked the edge of the bed, letting out a string of curses. While jumping around(Because apparently, that would help ease the pain), she somehow managed to stumble and fall backwards on the bed, dragging me along with her. And so, I got caught in arguably the most embarrassing moment of my life. Under me, with her wrist still pinned under my hand, was (Name). Our faces were so close; I could practically feel her breath on my face. This situation reminded me of several awkward situations back in high school, all of which involved her…and that flea too. One of them in particular stuck out to me.

That stupid flea! Just wait until I got my hands on him!
“Hey Shizuo!” Someone called my name a few feet away. “Wanna hang out after school? There’s this new cake place opening! Shinra and I were planning to go, wanna come along?” I recognized the voice as (L/N) (F/N). I turned around to see her standing by herself, hair whipping around her from the wind. Then, I see the stupid flea running towards her.
“IZAAAAYAAAA-KUUUUN!” I ran towards him as he smirked and grabbed (name)’s arm, running with her in tow.
“Orihara! What are you doing! Where are you taking me?? Oi! Let go already!” She complained. I chased him all over the school grounds, from the gym all the way to the courtyard on the other side. (Name) was physically tired from the chase, it was pretty obvious that she wasn’t used to all this.

Finally, that stupid raven ran into one of the school buildings and disappeared after turning a corner in the hallway. When I caught up, I couldn’t see him anymore. But I did hear some muffled sounds coming from…the janitor’s closet? Putting my ear on the door, I realized that the sounds were indeed coming from there. I flung the door open and found (name) with her hands tied behind her back and a cloth covering her mouth. Her eyes widened in recognition and she tried to signal me to untie her. I stepped in the cramped closet, this space could barely hold one person, let alone two, with all the equipment laying around. Before I knew it, the light began to disappear as the door closed behind me and locked with a click. I lifted my hands up and waved it around, trying to find her. I brushed against something soft and she gasped. After a while, I realized that it was her cheek. Finally, I was able to untie the bonds around her mouth and wrists.

“Thanks, Shizuo! That stupid Orihara, dragging me around and then tying me up in this stupid place! Any idea how we’re gonna get out of here?” I wasn’t listening. The only thing I could focus on was how close she was, her back pressing against my arm.
“Maybe you could break the door down? Though I’m pretty sure we would have to pay for it later…and possibly suffer a couple weeks of detention.” She continued to talk and eventually, the two of us fell asleep in the tiny closet.
In the morning, I woke up first again. My face was burning as I realized that my arms were around her waist, holding her tight against my chest, she used my arm as a pillow. When the janitor found us, he was far from pleased. Giving us a long lecture and going on and on about “crazy teens these days”. We ended up with detention for three days after school, helping the janitor. Rumors began to spread about the two of us dating and it took a long time with a lot of denying before the rumors drifted away…

“Um…” Her voice brought me back to reality. I smirked, using this situation to my advantage.
Leaning down, I whispered in her ear. “Hey (name), mind telling me what happened last night?”
“Eh!” She turned her head to the side as her face erupted into a bright shade of red. “Okay…fine. I…feltkindaguiltythatyouhadtosleeponthecouchsoItriedtocarryyoutothebedbutyouweretooheavysoIgaveupandfellasleeponthefloor! Sorry!”
“…” I barely understood what she was trying to say, other than the beginning and the apology at the end.
“Whatever.” I got up and let her go.

“Fwa! It's so cold here!” she complained, rubbing her arms to keep warm. “Aren’t you cold at all, Shizuo? I’m wearing four layers and I’m still freezing!” It wasn’t that cold, I was still wearing my usual attire.
“Hm.”
“Well, I guess we should find something to eat. Any ideas?” I didn’t say anything and she just went on talking.
“Ooh! I know! CRAB! After all, Hokkaido is famous for their crab, right?” I gave a quick nod.
The two of us stepped into a seafood restaurant. Her eyes were glittering with excitement.
“What should we have? Squid? Salmon? Urchin? So many, I can’t decide!” After we ordered, our food came and we ate in silence. Somewhat.

“This is way better than Simon’s weird sushi…” She muttered then cast a glance at me. “Though don’t tell him I said that! He would probably never give me free sushi ever again! But you have to admit, that sour cream thing he had going on last week was just plain nasty.” I inwardly cringed at the reminder. Simon’s sour cream on mashed potatoes sushi combo just didn’t work, half the people ate it out of fear…the other half? They were forcefully fed.

“Hmm. Where should we go next?” She asked. I shrugged.
After we finished and I paid for the food, we decided to walk around. Our feet crunched through the snow and I felt something cold touch the tip of my nose.
“Hey look! It’s snowing!” (Name) exclaimed, jumping up and down.
“Oi, careful. You’ll fall.” I warned.
“It’s okay, Shizuo will catch me if I fall, right?” Her eyes met mine and she let out a small laugh. “Just kidding~ I’ll be careful.” There it is again, that burning feeling on my cheeks. Isn’t it snowing? Of course, there’s no way that I’m blushing.
“Shizuo! Sheesh, you walk slower than an old man. Hurry up already!” She called out a few feet ahead. I quickened my pace until a cold wet slob hit my back. Snowball.
“We’re sorry sir!” I turned around and a group of kids stood, gathered in a circle. I didn’t realize that I was glaring at them until (Name) came and tugged on my arm.
“Come on, they already apologized. It’s okay, right?”
“Hm.” I turned and walked, with her still clutching my arm.

Where did that idiot go now? I turn my back for one second and now she’s gone! Letting out a sigh, I stuff my hands in my pockets and set off to find her.
Night was already approaching and I still couldn’t find her. The stupid flea probably does… I shook that thought out of my head. Like hell I’ll ask him for anything. I wasn’t that desperate yet.
I wandered back into the metropolitan area of Hokkaido, where the two of us previously were in the morning. Maybe I should look in the hotel first. The city here was busy, but nothing compared to Ikebukuro. I was about to head down to the hotel, until I heard a piercing scream.

Could it be her? I thought as I ran towards the source of the sound. More yelling could be heard as I turned the corner and into an alleyway. It was her alright. With a crowd of thugs encircling her. One of them was on the ground, clutching his…parts in pain. I looked at (Name), the corner of her lip was bleeding, slightly. For some reason, this angered me…
Slowly, I walked up to the supposed leader of the gang. As if they sensed my killing intent, the rest of them backed off a few steps.
“Buh…boss…” Their “boss” turned around and his face twisted into one of fear.
“Oi! What do you bastards think you’re doing!” (Name) finally became aware that I was there, her face brightened in recognition.
“Shizuo!” Walking over to the dumpster nearby, I picked it up with ease. The group screamed like a bunch of pansies and ran.
“We’re sorryyyyyy!!!” Che, cowards. I set the dumpster down. A blurred figure ran and held onto me.

“I’m sorry, Shizuo.” (Name) mumbled into my shirt.
“Where the hell did you go?” I whispered, and awkwardly patted her head as I held her small frame against me.
“Um…I helped an old woman cross the street?” There goes her crazy stories again.
“Yeah, right.” She looked up at me and pouted. It was almost……cute.
“It’s true! She was a nice lady too! She gave me candy~”
“And then?”
“A dragon swooped down from the sky and abducted me!” I glared at her.
“Okay, okay! Kidding! So I helped her cross the street then, there was this puppy, you see? It was lost and super cute! So I decided to call the number on its collar and I waited to meet up with the owner. By then, I kinda forgot that you were waiting for me…” She trailed off, whispering an apology. Great, I lost to some cute dog, how nice.
“After I returned the puppy to his owner, I got lost on my back to where we were, so I decided its much easier to just walk back to the hotel. I walked all the way back to the city, then those idiots found me and dragged me down here. One of them slapped me.” I ran my finger over her injured lip. “But it’s okay! Because I kicked his balls in return!” My lips twitched upwards.

“And then you came. So now we’re all cool!”
“Whatever. It’s getting late, let’s go.” I let go of her, feeling a slight twinge of emptiness, but continued on anyways.
“Hey, wait up!” I heard her tiny steps running to catch up. “Eh? It’s snowing again!” I looked up, and it was. The pure white powder filled the sky and I heard her laugh.
“It’s so pretty!” I turned to look at (Name). Her nose was a light pink from the cold, her cheeks slightly blushing, and the snow stuck in her hair. She had the smile of an innocent child. Looking at her, I did the only sensible thing anyone would do. I kissed her.
